Voyager Digital
About Voyager Digital
Voyager Digital filed for bankruptcy on July 5, 2022, a week before Celsius. The crypto brokerage had 1.3 million users and 5.8 billion in assets. Voyager had loaned 660 million to Three Arrows Capital, a Singapore hedge fund that collapsed. Voyager could not recover the loan. The bankruptcy filing listed 1.6 billion in assets against 3.4 billion in liabilities. FTX won an auction to acquire Voyager assets for 1.4 billion, but FTX itself collapsed in November 2022. Voyager eventually sold its assets to Binance.US for 20 million plus return of customer assets. The bankruptcy revealed that Voyager had functioned more like a bank than a brokerage, taking customer deposits and making loans without appropriate risk management or regulatory oversight.
