Luckin Reorganization
About Luckin Reorganization
Luckin Coffee emerged from its 2020 fraud scandal through a Chapter 15 bankruptcy proceeding in the US. The reorganization, completed in 2022, restructured approximately 460 million in convertible bonds. Luckin continued operating in China throughout the restructuring. The company opened thousands of new stores, surpassing Starbucks in China by store count. Luckin revenue exceeded 2.4 billion in 2023. The company relisted shares on the US pink sheet market. While investors in the original Luckin lost most of their money, the reorganized company demonstrated resilience. The Luckin case is unusual because a company survived a major accounting fraud and continued to grow. Most fraud-discovered companies liquidate, but Luckins underlying business was viable despite the fraud.
