FTX Recovery
About FTX Recovery
The FTX bankruptcy estate recovered approximately 14 billion for creditors by 2024, a remarkable outcome considering the initial estimates of 8 billion in missing funds. CEO John Ray III, who had previously managed the Enron bankruptcy, stated that the FTX recovery was possible because most assets were in liquid cryptocurrency. Ray criticized the previous management under Sam Bankman-Fried for catastrophic failures. The estate sold venture capital investments, real estate, and cryptocurrency holdings. Creditors were projected to receive 100 percent of claims plus interest. However, claims were valued at the cryptocurrency prices at the time of bankruptcy in November 2022, when prices were near cycle lows. Creditors who held Bitcoin claims received fiat value, missing the subsequent price recovery.
