About Endo International

Endo International filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2022. The pharmaceutical company had 8 billion in debt and faced over 2,000 opioid related lawsuits. Endo had marketed Opana ER, an opioid painkiller that was particularly prone to abuse. The FDA requested withdrawal of Opana ER in 2017. Endo agreed to pay 465 million to settle opioid claims. Endo sold its generic injectable business to Pharmakon for 250 million during bankruptcy. The company emerged from bankruptcy in September 2023 after eliminating 6 billion in debt. Mallinckrodt acquired Endo in 2025 for 1.2 billion. The case illustrates how pharmaceutical companies face existential financial risks from opioid litigation.
