Arrival
About Arrival
Arrival, the UK electric van startup, collapsed in 2024. The company had been valued at 13 billion via SPAC in 2021. Arrival planned to build electric vans in microfactories. UPS ordered 10,000 vans. However, Arrival produced very few vehicles. The microfactory concept proved more expensive than anticipated. Arrival restructured multiple times, cutting staff from 3,000 to 800. In 2023, Arrival sold assets to Canoo, another struggling EV startup. In 2024, Arrival filed for administration in the UK. The case illustrates how innovative manufacturing concepts can fail in execution. The electric commercial vehicle market has proven difficult for startups, with established manufacturers like Ford and Mercedes competing effectively.
